Social Karaoke plays karaoke, instrumental, and lyric versions that already exist on YouTube. The pool is enormously larger, particularly for obscure songs, non-English repertoire, and anything a dedicated karaoke channel has covered. The quality varies by uploader, though. KaraFun also supports phone-based queueing: guests can connect their own smartphone as a remote control to browse the catalogue and add songs, including through a fixed QR code for venues, and scanning that code simply opens a browser page. Adding songs from your own phone is not something only Social Karaoke does.
The difference is what the host needs. Social Karaoke's host account is free and there is no subscription between you and the full song pool; KaraFun's host needs an account with a subscription to reach the whole catalogue. For guests, both are frictionless.
Control over the track itself
KaraFun wins this outright. You can adjust the key and tempo of songs in its catalogue, and turn guide or lead vocals on for songs where you want backup.
Social Karaoke cannot do any of that. It plays YouTube videos through YouTube's player, and that model simply does not allow changing the pitch or tempo of a track or separating out a vocal line. If a song is too high, your option is to search for a version someone has already uploaded in a lower key, which often exists but is not guaranteed.

How the room is run
Social Karaoke is built around one shared queue that everyone in the room can see. Each entry shows who added it, anyone can upvote a song to bump it up, and skipping the current song is a majority vote of the people in the room rather than one person's call.
Hosts can promote co-hosts to help run things, lock the room with a join PIN or knock-to-join approval, and issue timeouts or kicks. Autoplay rolls into the next song immediately, or after a countdown of up to 60 seconds. Afterwards the room archives into a read-only history of what was played, with five visibility settings.
