Birthday parties are the hardest test of this. Anything that requires everyone to find an app, wait for a download, create a login and verify an email will lose half the room before the first song. Point a phone camera at the QR code on screen, type a name, done - that is the whole process, and it works the same on any phone.
Line up the birthday playlist ahead of time
You can prepare the entire setlist before anyone arrives. Signed-in hosts can favorite songs and build playlists in advance, then load a whole playlist into a fresh room in a single step.
This is the difference between a birthday party that starts singing immediately and one where everyone stands around while the host searches YouTube. Put together the birthday person's favorites the night before, check each version actually sounds right, and open the room with a full queue already in it.

The birthday guest sings, not runs the tech
The person the party is for should not be stuck operating the laptop. Promote a trusted guest to co-host and they can manage the queue, reorder songs, and skip while the birthday singer is up front.
Songs also roll into each other automatically, either immediately or after a countdown of up to 60 seconds. Nobody has to walk back to the screen between numbers, so the birthday person can keep singing rather than keep clicking.
Any screen becomes the stage
Host on whatever screen is biggest. A smart TV browser works, so does a laptop plugged into the TV, and so does a tablet if that is what the room has.
Whatever you host on is what everyone gathers around and sings to, so pick for the size of the crowd. Guests use their own phones as remotes regardless of what the stage is.

Is it free?
Yes, entirely. Social Karaoke has no paid tier, no per-song charges, and no ads, so a birthday party costs nothing to run.
Do guests need an account or an app?
Guests need neither. They open the site in a phone browser, scan the QR code or type the 4-letter room code, and choose a nickname. Only the host needs an account, which is free.
Can I set up the songs before the party?
Yes, and it is the single best thing you can do in advance. Save favorites and build a playlist while signed in, then load that playlist into your room in one step when the party starts.
How do people join?
Every room shows a 4-letter code and a QR code on the host screen. Guests scan the QR with their phone camera or type the code on the join page, pick a nickname, and start adding songs.
Is it suitable for kids?
The app itself is simple enough for children to use, since joining is a QR scan and a nickname. Songs come from YouTube, though, so what plays is whatever anyone in the room queues - if that matters, keep an eye on the queue or have a co-host do it.
